Campus-Wide Solar Panel Installation
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
Gaithersburg, MD
Project Description:

As the prime contractor, GES provided electrical engineering services for the development of a solar panel system capable of providing 500-600 kW of new power to supplement NIST's existing kW system. Specific projects include:

Laboratory Building 216: A 1200-module ground based photovoltaic array providing a system capacity of 252 kWp with first-year minimum energy output of 327 MWh, and first-year yield of 1299 kWh/kWp.

Laboratory Building 227: A 1152-module shade canopy mounted array including pre-engineered canopy structures over the existing parking areas configured to provide a system capacity of 241.92 kWp with first-year minimum energy output of 279 MWh, and first-year yield of 1154 kWh/kWp.

Administration Building 101 Roof Area: A ballasted, roof mounted 336-module array configured to provide a system capacity 70.56 kWp with first-year minimum energy output of 78.5 MWh and first-year yield of 1112 kWh/kWp.

Facility Services Building 301 Roof Area: A ballasted, roof mounted 36-module array configured to provide a system capacity of 7.56 kWp with first-year minimum energy output of 8.3 MWh and first-year yield of 1098 kWh/kWp. Work also included vehicle charging stations for the support of electric vehicle charging with instructional signage describing charging operations.
